Doe’s Eat Place at 2806 S. Walton Blvd. in Bentonville has closed after more than two decades of operations.

The restaurant opened in 2003 and, following a small gathering with regular customers last week, announced its closure on Facebook.

When reached by phone Sunday evening, general manager Matt Huson said his family was presented with new, local business opportunities, but said it was too early to share more details about them.

The first Doe’s Eat Place opened in 1941 in Greenville, Mississippi. The small chain built its reputation on oversized hand-cut steaks, hot tamales and a casual, no-frills dining style.

The Huson family operated the Bentonville location as well as one in Fayetteville. The family has “no plans at any time soon” to close the Fayetteville location, Huson said.

There are “so many good memories, and so many things I could reflect on over 23 years,” Huson said. “It’s nice to go out on top and not, you know, with your tail between your legs.”

In addition to numerous local residents, multiple celebrities visited the joint over the years, including celebrity chef Guy Fieri, comedian Will Ferrell and actor Matthew McConaughey.

The 2.2-acre property and 5,971-square-foot building are for sale for $3.5 million. The real estate listing notes the prime location along Walton Boulevard that sees about 28,000 cars a day.

“Whether somebody wants to rebuild or wants to renovate that building, that would be up to them, but the whole thing is for sale, as far as the just under two acres that it sits on and in the building,” Huson said.
