Free Trees for Bentonville Residents this Saturday

This spring season is about to get a lot greener. The City of Bentonville will host its biannual tree giveaway at the Bentonville Compost Facility from 8-10 a.m. this Saturday.

The tree giveaway, which has been a Bentonville tradition for over ten years, aims to boost the aesthetics of residences as well as provide environmental benefits to the city.

“Increasing tree coverage provides benefits to air quality, respite from the summer sun, and are valuable resources for local wildlife and migratory birds,” Taylor Allen, Community and Economic Development Planner for the City of Bentonville, said. “We conducted a Tree Canopy Assessment Report in 2021 that revealed a .2% loss in tree canopy since 2013. That loss was higher for mature canopy but was offset by the new planting of smaller trees.”

A total of 570 trees will be available for the giveaway, featuring species such as sugar maples, American hornbeams, Carolina silverbells, sourwoods, swamp white oaks, and scarlet oaks. Species were chosen specifically for their “availability from the nursery” and if they are “native to or thrive in [Bentonville’s] local environment.”

The City of Bentonville tree giveaway is made possible by the City of Bentonville Tree & Landscape Advisory Committee, Compton Gardens & Arboretum and the Walton Family Foundation.

Know Before You Go

  • Unlike in years past, there is no pre-registration for the giveaway. Trees are given away on a first come, first serve basis.

  • The giveaway is only available to Bentonville residents. You must provide a copy of a Bentonville utility bill to be eligible to participate in the tree giveaway.

  • There is a two-tree limit for each address.

  • Bentonville Compost Facility address: 2000 NW A Street, Bentonville, AR 72712
