NWACC is offering Bike Tech Community classes throughout June to help cyclists feel more comfortable with handling bike maintenance.
The program started with Advanced Bike Mechanics on June 8. Two classes, Fix A Flat & Tubeless Conversion and Quick Tune & Clean, will be offered on June 15. Suspension Basics and Maintenance will be offered on June 22. Classes range from two to four hours and cost between $50-$100.
After June, the program plans to offer monthly community classes, according to Wendy Taylor, NWACC cycling and trails marketing and outreach support specialist. As the program progresses, more topics will be added.
Classes will be held in the college’s Bicycle Technician Lab. Bicycles and tools will be provided, but community members are welcome to bring their own bicycles. There is a maximum capacity of 12 students in each class.
The community classes are taught by faculty members of the college’s Bicycle Technician Program, a yearlong program that leads to a Bicycle Industry Employers Association accreditation certificate. Taylor said there are only two of these programs in the country, the other housed at Minneapolis College.
