City of Bentonville To Host Meeting About Downtown Square

The City of Bentonville is hosting a town hall on preserving the historic character of the downtown square.

The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 28 from 4-6 p.m. at the Bentonville Public Library. City staff request that attendees RSVP.

“The downtown square holds a unique and historic role in the heart of Bentonville. With its distinctive character and cultural significance, the City is exploring strategies to preserve and enhance the square’s identity for future generations,” a press release from the city said.

On the recently-finalized Future Land Use Map, the blocks surrounding the Bentonville Square are classified as “Center City.” Here’s how the City defines that classification:

“City Centers are places like the Downtown Bentonville Square and its surrounding blocks, with jobs, entertainment, convenience retail, daily services, and housing at a variety of scales — from single story shops to office and residential buildings. These types and uses, as well as churches and other civic buildings, make for the city's most active, compact and walkable space.”
