A new bicycle repair shop in Bentonville has nearly finished plans to open a complementary bar.

Trackstand Cyclery and Tavern opened its service shop in mid-September at 1400 SW Susana St., Ste. 6, ahead of its anticipated beer and wine bar, which received conditional approval for a state permit in December. Now the tavern concept is on track to open in the same space by February, according to Brent Van Eps, who co-owns Trackstand alongside his wife, Jennifer.

“We’ve had bike shops before, so we were pretty much ready to go,” said Van Eps, who previously opened Bentonville Bicycle Company before eventually selling the business. “So far, it’s been good, even though it’s a tricky bike market right now.”

The bike shop specializes in routine services and repairs, with a few bikes also available for purchase. Walk-in visits are encouraged, with a goal to quickly turn around all basic repairs.

And customers will soon be able to order beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages while they wait. The bar menu will feature craft beers from Arkansas as well as from places where he and his wife once lived, such as Colorado, Maryland and southern California. Trackstand will also offer non-alcoholic beverages, including tea, soda and sparkling waters, along with some bar snacks, including charcuterie, nachos and hummus.

“We have a comfortable space that looks nice, and I think people will dig it,” Van Eps said.

Once the nearby 8th Street Gateway Park opens, Van Eps said he expects a lot of spillover activity for Trackstand Cyclery and Tavern.

“Hopefully, people will have a post-ride drink or hang out while they need some work done on their bike,” he said.

The dual concept is part of a trend that Van Eps said he expects to grow as small businesses seek to maximize the physical spaces they are leasing. As further incentive to visit Trackstand, Van Eps said the shop offers discounted annual service plans and doesn’t charge for repairs on children’s bikes with 24-inch wheels and smaller.

“We’re happy to take care of the kids,” he said. “This is something we can do to give back.”
